Skardu road is one of those roads that will drain every ounce of energy you have which is why people who can afford it usually go to Skardu by air. Going to Skardu by road is not only hectic but also dangerous if you’re going in the rainy season. Land sliding happens very often. People get stuck in Skardu or even worse on Skardu road for days. I was stuck in Skardu for around 3 days because the roads weren’t functional. And even after FWO did clear the road, the road’s condition was horrible. A little bit of rain and it would have been a disaster.
Now you must be thinking if it’s such a risky road, why do people go there putting their lives in danger? Here’s why: It’s breathtaking.
Here are five most beautiful places in Skardu that you should absolutely see if you go there.
I’m a sucker for lakes and waterfalls so naturally the first on my list is Manthoka waterfall. It’s located in Kharmang valley.
It’s almost an hour away from Skardu city. The color of this lake is green which makes this lake so beautiful and different
Upper Kachura Lake
Its a 40 minutes walking track to Upper Kachura Lake. You can explore its beauty by taking a boat ride too.
Lower Kachura Lake
This one is also called Shangrila Lake because around this beautiful lake is a resort named Shangrila.
Shigar Cold Desert
Shigar cold desert is said to be the highest cold desert in the world. In winters It’s temperature can be as low as -25 °C.
There is a lot more to see in Skardu other than these five. Deosai is around three to four hours away from Skardu and it’s better than all of the above combined which is why I’m to write a separate post for it.
